1. What are cookies and similar technologies?
Cookies are small data files that can be stored on your device when you visit a website. Websites may also use similar technologies, such as local storage, session storage or other browser-based identifiers, to provide functionality, remember preferences or obtain information about how website content is used.
In this Cookie Policy, we use the term "cookies" to also cover similar technologies where appropriate.
2. Which categories do we use?
Strictly necessary
Strictly necessary technologies are required for the secure and reliable operation of the website or to provide functions that you explicitly request. This includes technologies used to remember your cookie choices and session cookies required to operate the SafeAD application process.
The information used to remember your cookie choice is retained only for as long as needed to remember and document that choice. It may be reset when you change your preferences, clear website data in your browser or when we materially change our cookie setup and ask you to choose again.
Session cookies used for the application process are intended to operate only for the relevant browser session and are not used for advertising or analytics.
Functional
With your consent, functional technologies may be used to remember preferences relating to the presentation or playback of website content. This includes, for example, remembering whether a video was muted.
Depending on the browser storage mechanism used, a functional preference may be stored for the current session or until the relevant website data is cleared, overwritten or otherwise expires. Functional preference data is not used by SafeAD for advertising.

Statistics – Mux
With your consent, we use Mux in connection with website videos to understand the technical performance and use of video content.
Mux may help us understand, for example:
- whether a video starts successfully;
- whether playback stalls or encounters technical problems;
- how video playback performs; and
- how viewers interact with video content, such as whether playback is abandoned before completion.
The provider is Mux, Inc., United States.
Mux may process technical and usage information such as IP address for coarse location and bot detection, browser and device information, video and player information, playback and performance information, and randomly generated viewer or session identifiers. Mux states that it pseudonymizes the IP address after processing by truncating it.
Depending on the technical configuration, Mux may use a first-party cookie or similar identifier to associate playback events with a viewing session. Mux states that its default web-player cookie may contain a randomly generated viewer identifier and anonymous session information. These identifiers are not used by SafeAD for advertising or cross-site advertising profiles.
According to Mux, pseudonymized video view data is retained for up to 100 days and is then deleted from its systems.
3. Legal basis
The storage of information on your device or access to information already stored on your device is governed by Section 25 of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG).
Where consent is required, we use the relevant technology on the basis of your consent pursuant to Section 25(1) TDDDG. Where personal data is processed in connection with an optional technology, the legal basis is Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR.
Where a technology is strictly necessary to provide a digital service expressly requested by you, consent is not required pursuant to Section 25(2) TDDDG. Where strictly necessary technologies involve the processing of personal data, the applicable legal basis depends on the relevant purpose and may include Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, in particular our legitimate interest in securely operating the website and recording your privacy choices.
4. Your Cookie Preferences
When you visit the public SafeAD website, you can decide whether optional functional and statistics technologies may be used. The cookie banner allows you to accept all optional technologies, reject all optional technologies or manage the available categories individually.
Strictly necessary technologies remain active because they are required for the operation of the website or for functionality that you explicitly request.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time with effect for the future by reopening the Cookie Preferences on our website. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal.
5. International data transfers
Mux, Inc. is based in the United States. The use of Mux may therefore involve processing of information in the United States.
Mux states that it participates in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Where personal data is transferred outside the European Economic Area, the requirements of Chapter V GDPR apply. Further information is provided in our Privacy Policy.
6. Browser settings
Most web browsers allow you to view, delete or block cookies and other website data through the browser settings.
Please note that blocking strictly necessary technologies may affect the availability or functionality of parts of the website or the application process.
Browser settings operate independently from the Cookie Preferences available on our website.

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if the technologies or service providers used on the website change or if legal requirements change. The date of the latest version is shown at the top of this page.
